Abuse Part 1

2–3 minutes

THIS BLOG COMES WITH A TWIGGER WARNING

How many types of abuse are there?

Well abuse is rarely talked about in person or online, but these are the main types of abuse that are more commonly known:

  • Child abuse
  • Domestic violence or intimate partner violence
  • Sexual abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse

But in fact

There are more types of abuse that don’t get talked about or even thought to be classed as abuse. Abuse isn’t only just physical but it can be emotional, psychological, sexual and financial as well.

What are the other types of abuse?

  • Online/ Digital abuse
    • Bullying and cyberbullying
  • Workplace abuse
  • Self-neglect
  • Financial/ material abuse
  • Modern slavery
  • Discriminatory abuse
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Trafficking
  • Criminal exploitation and gangs
  • Grooming
  • Neglect or abandonment

But abuse only happens to adults?

This is not sure. Abuse can happen to anyone at any age. Even if it only happens once or over a time period.

How can I know if I am getting abused?

This can be a very tricky question as abusers and narcissists can hide the abuse they are giving to someone by doing it in private or just lying when being questioned about. They can use it in the form of loving behaviour like being over protected or just controlling. Remember abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, sexual and psychological. The abuser may not be a loved one or a family member, it could be a coworker or support staff.  If you are not sure about that person’s behaviour, talk to someone.

But what about mate crime?

Mate crime can be classed as abuse, depending on what the person is doing. Want to learn about about mate crime please read my blog Navigating Friendship Part 2 – JaimeGraceUK’s World (jaimegraceuksworld.co.uk)
